Who is Maryam?

I’m a 21 years old strong independent woman who was born and raised in the United Arab Emirates, Alain City. My personal life is just like a road full of bumps. I graduated from a private school with an average of 94%, I was 16 back then. A sudden, not planned 360-degree change happened in my life. A great man proposed to marry me. I got married at the age of 18. I was still young and wild. I had to move to Abu Dhabi with my husband since he was raised and works there.

I transfer my education from UAEU to Abu-Dhabi women’s college, so it will be easier for me to transfer to Alain women's college when my husband will go to the national service, and when I will give birth to my first newborn. I studied one year and a half in Abu-Dhabi, and then I transferred to my mother's house, due to my birth of my lovely son, I have to come back to Al Ain. To pursue my dreams and to continue my education, I took admission in Al Ain Women College – HCT. Now I'm a student in Alain Wome's College (AAWC) in the accounting major; my GPA is 3.74.  However, I wanted to complete my graduation and then have a job, but my husband’s wish to have my own business have changed my goals in life.

The goals of my life after my graduation, are to establish my own business and to take care of my family, whom I love most. I have not thought about future studies yet, but maybe someday I will give some considerations to that. The purpose of my life is to be a good human being with a successful business of my own, just like my role model His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan, so that I can make my family and love ones proud one day.

The Struggles I faced when I studied in UAEU.

When I joined the United Arab Emirates University, I applied for information technology since it was my dream major. I was always passionate about programming and robots. My first university year was so tough and frustrating. I took courses with professors that will always make me feel stupid and down. There was that professor who would always tell me that I don’t belong to the major “Information Technology” because I’m slow in the head. He made me believe that I’m just wasting my time studying something I have no bright future with. These words just made me lose the potential I had. I had no more faith in myself. I kept having so many negative thoughts to the point I decided to drop from the university, I then realized that I should never give up and these words full of hate should only make me stronger. I changed my major to business even though I wasn’t interested in business. But that passion for trying new things made me go for it.

Since accounting is a core part of any business, I decided to study Accounting major when I Joined the Higher college of technology without knowing anything about the major and I had no background about the major. After I majored in accounting, I ended up loving it and enjoying it a lot. Besides, I liked the fact that it was a challenge to me, and it sparked my interest and passion for learning more.

And believe it or not, I LOVE it More than my love for the information technology major. It is an exciting and successful career path.

My Goals for 2019:

1)  Self-education is something I will continue doing for the remainder of my life. I will always invest in educating myself.

2) I want to be able to make relationships with new friends in any place I go. And to overcome the shy.

3) Spend more time offline, away from the small screens, and social media.

4) I want To start reading books and stories.

5) My biggest goal for the year, is to Start my own business.
